Cetyl Alcohol
Cetyl Alcohol is a flaky, waxy, white solid that is used as a moisturizer in lotions and creams, an emollient, creating a barrier to prevent moisture from escaping, an emulsifier, keeping different mixtures from separating and a stabilizer in foams, controlling the density and texture of products. It does not dissolve in water but dissolves in alcohol. Cetyl alcohol is combined with stearyl alcohol to make cetearyl alcohol.
Used in: cosmetics, bath soaps, detergents, shaving creams, lotions and shampoos.
